The Best Costumes Are Homemade

Wednesday, October 17, 2012

I rarely dress up for Halloween, but I marvel at homemade costumes.  Two years ago, co-workers and I dressed up as the Three Little Pigs at work.

We were pretty hot hogs, if I do say so myself.  But the homemade costume that I am most proud of was made in college.  It also happened to be a pretty kick-ass couples costumes.  If you're a Pixar fan, you'll love this.  We wanted to be Mike Wazowski and Boo from Monsters, Inc.

Dressing up as Boo would be easy, but how in the world were we going to make Mike Wazowski?

The Answer: Fabric, quilt stuffing (is that even what it's called?), foam, and Duck Tape.

Duck tape works for everything.  It held the costume together through two nights of Halloween partying.  That's pretty hardcore in my book.  You're probably like, Lindsay, shut up and show us the costumes.  OK, OK.  So pushy.  ;)  I present Mike Wazowski and Boo!

I don't know how he would feel about me posting this, so... happy face icon, it is!

I made that.  (curtsy)  Well, we made that, but he isn't here to fight me for bragging rights, so... I made that. At the second party, I carried around a doll of Sulley which completed the Monsters, Inc. cast.

What's your favorite Halloween costume?
Do you make your costumes?

hahaha that Mike Wazowski costume is classic! I'd be bragging if I made that too. All my best costumes were from college as well. Once my friends and I were a six pack of coronas and the year after that we were tampons. People... I mean MEN were completely disgusted. It was kind of awesome.

Freshman year of college I wrapped a moving box in wrapping paper, put a tag on it that said "To: Men From: God", propped it on my shoulders with some suspenders, and wore a bow on my head. In grad school I wore one of my show choir dresses that is made completely of silver sequins, added a few silver accessories, carried around an ipod playing 70s music, and was a disco ball. I tried to be a Girls Gone Wild girl one year, but I couldn't get the cardboard edit sign to stay across my chest... :)

You are so cute! I have been the same thing for the past 2 years: Sookie Stackhouse from True Blood. I made the costume but it isn't the cutest thing in the world! haha

Those are all AWESOME! I love it! You are the most adorable pig...haha ;) And genius Monsters Inc. costumes! I don't think I ever really made mine. Well, I threw some of my stuff together for an Audrey Hepburn costume 3 years ago, but that's about it.
