When Simple Decisions Aren't

MISTER
I feel like getting cheese and crackers.  Do you want cheese and crackers to snack on at home?

ME
Yeah.  I love cheese and crackers.  It's my favorite snack that they have at work.  We have to get pepper jack.

MISTER
(hesitant coy smile)
I knew you were going to say that.  I want to get cheddar.

ME
We'll get both then.

MISTER
Are we going to eat that much cheese?

ME
Ummm... probably not.

We spent more than a few minutes looking at the cheese display.  The pepper jack only came in a jumbo size, and I was disappointed, because I knew we didn't need that much cheese.  As I conceded, I could see that he was trying to convince himself that maybe we should get the pepper jack, even as I said we should get the cheddar.  (Sometimes, we play this game of Ping Pong Offering.  Do want the rest of the iced tea?  Go for it, baby.  Well, I'm going to make more today, so do you want the rest of this?  It's all yours.)  We got the smallest block of cheddar cheese and moved on.  And then we had to choose the crackers.  Simple, right?  No.

MISTER
(walking in the opposite direction as me)
Which ones do we get?

ME
Just plain crackers, I guess.  Like these.
(pointing)

MISTER
I don't like those.

ME
(now laughing at how difficult this easy task was getting)
What?!

MISTER
I like these.

ME
They're all buttery.

MISTER
And... ?

ME
(full-on laughter now)
Oh, my gosh!  Who knew this was such a hard decision for two people to make?

This is exactly what happened the first year that we decorated for Christmas together.  We had memories of what our childhood homes looked like at Christmastime, and those homes looked nothing alike.  We laughed at and defended our descriptions of window displays, tree ornaments, and type and color of lights!  Same country, same season, same holiday -- totally different decorating styles!  It was our first step in creating our own traditions.

As difficult as these simple decisions can be, I'm having so much fun making them together, from decorating to cheese and crackers.

You are too cute Lindsay :) It's the little things that marriage fun, don't you think? Robert and I have gotten to the point though where we pretty much buy four things of cheese, just because we don't want to have to argue about it haha

Hope you have a lovely day my dear!

xoxo,
Joelle

We have these convos! Most about where to eat - what do you want? I don't care what do you want? And on and on and on...

We do this too! More times than not we end up getting two of things (like cheese & crackers) because we can't seem to agree.

This must be a rite of passage for all married couples, because even after so many years of wedded bliss, we STILL do this! Even though we just went shopping last month and had the same problem! HA! Super funny Lindsay.

That sounds EXACTLY like me and James! We have strong opinions on our cheese. And christmas decorations ;)

The only difference here is that we would've gotten both cheeses and had no trouble eating it all :)

Haha! So true! When 2 different lives merge, it becomes interesting right?

ps- I would have gotten the pepper jack too and put some in the freezer for later ;)

To funny! I was cracking up laughing! I LOVE pepper jack too! My hubs will eat just about any cheese. When I am back at my hometown that is one of the snacks my mom and I snack on! :)

I can't stop laughing about this! I'm sure after a little more give and take you will wind up with a lot of the same tastes. But...there are a lot of varieties of cheese to choose from. And the wrong decision could turn out disastrous (for example, Roquefort cheese AKA the smelliest cheese on earth. Stay away from that one.)

Listen, cheese is SERIOUS business and requires serious consideration lol :)

Have a lovely weekend and enjoy your cheese xo
