If You Really Knew Me

I wanted to write this post as soon as I read Jenni's which led me to Kristin's.  As far as I can tell, Kristin was the first to write an "If You Really Knew Me" post (but please correct me if I'm wrong). It's a brilliant idea! --> UPDATE: Kristin informed me that she got the idea from Al!

If you really knew me, you'd know that...

+ I've been adding crushed pepper to a lot of my meals lately which is peculiar, because anything with a dash of spicy goodness lights my mouth on fire.  (It's pure culinary masochism.)

+ I speak profane words all too often (usually when joking around), but I've realized it mostly happens when I'm with my husband.  It must be love.

+ It is very common that I end up with multiple pairs of socks buried in our bed sheets by week's end.  I go to sleep with socks on, but they almost never stay on 'til morning.  When laundry day comes, I have to do a sock rescue search on my side of the bed.

+ I was never formally engaged.  There was no proposal.  Neither of us are bothered by that, and those who truly know us wouldn't be surprised.  We're completely happy, and we do life the way we want to!

+ I am left-handed.

+ I hate it when someone purposely scare me as a joke.  Standing around a corner and waiting to yell "boo" at me?  It isn't funny, and if I accidentally hit you in defense, it's really not funny (for you).  Consider yourself warned!

+ I am lactose intolerant.

+ I am Guamanian and Filipino.  Oddly, Filipinos don't believe I am Filipino, and Mexicans assume I am Mexican.  And when I lived in NYC, everyone thought I was Hawaiian.  (Close!)  I was told countless times that I looked "exotic" -- which made me think "dancer".  How's that for word association?  :-)

+ I believe that family is chosen as much as it is biological.  Relationships are more important than blood lines.  Family is created.

+ I always have a small bottle of stevia in my purse.

+ I really want to go to graduate school.  Michelle and I are embarking on the journey together (and holding each other accountable)!

+ Car rides are very soothing to me, and I can easily fall asleep if I'm in the passenger seat.

+ I do not believe in love at first sight, and I do not believe that there is only one true soul mate for each of us.

+ I told my parents I wanted to change my name to Lilli when I was 5 or 6, so I could share the name with the near-sighted feline tightrope artist on Dumbo's Circus.  Please tell me you've seen this classic Disney TV show circa 1985!

+ I wish I was a jazz singer.

+ Sunglasses are a permanent fixture on my head.  If I'm not wearing them over my eyes, they're on my head as a headband.  I'm a San Diego girl through and through, I guess.

What don't I know about you?

Oh, and happy Friday eve!

The one about not believing in one true love makes me happy. Everyone thinks I'm so unromantic/sad when I say that! Glad to know I'm not the only one!

love this - i first saw it on jennis blog and sometime i'll get around to writing my own - it was great to get to get to know you a little better :)

I had the exact same idea! We should do a link-up?!

I love your comment about Family is created - I think the exact same way!

I love that you never have been engaged officially - same over here. We talked about it, we know we want it. Who needs the whole proposal thing!

I am lactose intolerant as well!

I'm totally with you in the car rides. Put me in the passenger seat & I am OUT.

First of all, that top right picture of you? Probably the best photo ever. I laughed out loud.

Also, I feel like everyone is secretly a potty mouth. I say we all just embrace it! Hahaha.

P.S. Lefties unite! What what!

I have one of these posts scheduled :)
I saw Jenni's and thought it was a great idea!

It's kind f amazing how many of these things I didn't know about you, yet I'm not surprised that they are who you are. Does that make sense? Maybe, maybe not.

I love the one about family and about love. A-GREED.

I love you sista...HEY created family! ;)

Oh my gosh, I love you even more now! Those pictures are brilliant. I think the fact that you're Guamanian is totally awesome. I've never met any Guamese (totally made that word up) people before.

YEAH jazz singer! I've always wanted to be a jazz pianist :)

Ok now I'm off to write one of these posts because it's awesome!

I hate being scared too!!! Ugh.

I love this list because I get to learn more about YOU!

Haha, we have a lot more in common than I thought! I am Filipino, Swedish, Puerto Rican, and Cuban, but everyone thinks I'm Mexican {especially since my maiden name is Cortez}. I just don't think people know what to do with us :)

And anyone who knows me well knows not to scare me on purpose. I will hate you forever. In eight years together, my husband hasn't scared me once. I think that's a good sign...

Thanks for sharing these with us Lindsay! It's nice to get to know you a little bit better :)

I like that these are going around. I might have to do one myself.
But yay #TeamLeftHand!!! I have a big sign that says "lefties have rights too" that I like to keep in my cubicle.

Great to learn things about you! I'm with you on people scaring me with a joke - hate it! And I'm doing grad school right now - good luck to you! Let me know if you need any help/advice/study buddy. :)

Being scared is NOT funny. Why do people do that?! Also, love that you're a lefty! If you're anything like me I hate lefty jokes - My father-in-law loves to remind me that I'm using the wrong hand... Ha. Ha. Nope. not funny. Loved this little peek into you!

my fave one is that you weren't formally engaged. wow. love that :)

Um... we. are. the. same.
1. Left-handed.
2. I WILL punch the crap out of you if you scare me. It will not be an accident. Also, I scare-jump easily. Male friends learned to not take advantage of this quickly.
3. Family is what you make it. YES.
4. No love at first sight. Lust, yes. Then it's a whole ton of work. I've got a whole theory on the idea of "love", anyway...
5. When I was 11 I was going to change my name to Paisley Anne Jesca Leigh ---------. My mom said I could if I still wanted it at 13; my mom's a wise lady.
6. I wear sunglasses constantly. Even in my house.

Except the socks thing (Free Feet!) and the lactose thing (I live for dairy)... oh, and the whole I'm a pasty super-Northern European blend :)
I knew I adored you for a reason (or 64!)!!

We have a few things in common. One being that we don't believe in love at first sight. Curious if your husband does? Although he's always known this about me, it's a prickly subject for my husband and I.

Happy Friday eve to you too!

I'm stealing your idea. After I write my blog about my Scotland trip, this will be my next one. Brilliant! (And, I'm sad to say that I knew so few of those facts... :( )

And P.S. Dumbo's Circus was one of my favorite shows as a child! It came on right before Under the Umbrella Tree!!

Love this. I'm doing it next week. So fun.

Good luck on grad school. I enjoyed it but am definitely glad to be done! :)

I love these types of posts and I agree completely that family is who you make it (I'm adopted and was so fortunate to be.)

I'm also lactose intolerant :)

I may use this for a future post - have a great weekend!

Lindsay! Hi! I saw all this traffic coming my way from your addy, and thought I'd come see what all the fuss was about. Hooray! Another "If you really knew me..." post! Oh, how I've loved all these popping up :-) So fun to meet new friends and get to know lots of fun random stuff about them. No, I was not the first, I got the idea from Al at Traffic Jelly.-

So. About your list. First of all, if you are left handed, I already like you. Strange, but I seem to have an unexplainable connection to lefties. My hubby is one, and 4 out of 6 of my bridesmaids were too. Isn't that strange? - Let's see, I'm also lactose intolerant, totally believe that you choose your family, use stevia as a sweetener, and loose my socks in bed!

Hope you have a wonderful weekend my dear, and it's so nice to "meet" you :-)

ha aw - this seriously makes me want to meet you :0)

i'm left handed (and totally respect following your own love-rules!)

three things about me?
1. I am addicted to goldfish
2. I watch Buffy re-runs all the time
3. and an terrified of starting teaching next year! bah!

I was friends with a girl in middle school who was from Saipan -- I lost touch with her but she was a cool bean! I still think its random that I met someone from Saipan while living in suburban Oregon. Meeting people from Guam seems much more common.

YAY, lactose intolerant buddies!

Congrats on your journey into grad school-ness! Good luck! What do you want to go back for?

I too believe that family is chosen. Relationships really are stronger than bloodlines.

I could fall asleep instantly in the passenger seat! Even if I'm not tired. That's how my parents used to put me to sleep as a baby sometimes!

Loved learning more about you!

This is great! You are on a roll with fun posts, lately! I always wear sunglasses - on my eyes or head, too. I definitely think you look "exoitic"... just kidding. Well, you do look exotic, but not in the exotic dancer sense!
